about
This is the original version of the song later remixed as 'Heart' I wrote it around 1984 when living in Harlesden. It was based around a few little chord riffs. The song is about the need for romantic love, but recoiling at getting hurt again each time. Recorded on cassette tape around 1991.
lyrics
Wounded Heart
by Veronique Acoustique (written 1984, recorded around 1991, released 1995)
The first time I trusted you
Was the day you said you could never hurt me
Bitter as I was
Wounded as I was
Your kind smile, I trusted you
Weeks passed and so at last
I’ve worked my way through my life’s story
Bitter as I was
Wounded as I was
I love you, but don’t come too close …to my heart
Chorus:
Oh no, don’t you come too close to my wounded heart
Oh, oh, oh no, don’t you come too close to my wounded heart
If I could take back every tear
And if I could push back all of my fears
If all of my feelings would just disappear
Just don’t come too near, don’t come too near, don’t come too near
Don’t come too near, don’t come too near, don’t come too near
Oh, oh, oh no, don’t you come too close to my wounded heart
So I’ll sit here and you’ll sit there
And we’ll talk all day but I’ll never tell you
I’ll hide my love away
I’ll store my love away
Because I love you but don’t come too close… to my heart
Oh, oh, oh no, don’t you come too close to my wounded heart
Oh, oh, oh no, don’t you come too close to my wounded heart
If I could take back every tear
And if I could push back all of my fears
If all of my feelings would just disappear
Just don’t come too near, don’t come too near, don’t come too near
Don’t come too near, don’t come too near, don’t come too near
Oh, oh, oh no, don’t you come too close to my wounded heart
Oh, oh, oh no don’t you come too close to my wounded heart
Oh, oh, oh no, don’t you come too close to my wounded heart
Oh, oh, oh no don’t you come too close to my wounded heart.
